I've yet to purchase a tent and just wanted to hear some advise and experience that some of you adventurers may have had. Thanks

I have a what they call a 2 man tent that barely fits me and my gear and I am 6' tall and have to sleep at an angle. It's about a hundred dollar tent that I have spent about 50 nights in. It has fibreglass poles that I have had to replace sections of because the ferrules have stretched and it wasn't rigid anymore.
The difference between a high end tent and a tent like mine is the poles are aluminum and the zippers are better quality. Don't cheap out and buy a sleeping mat that doesn't say Thermorest and buy the best fart sack you can afford.
You are worth it because I bought 2 Woods sleeping mats that left me sleeping on the cold ground before I bought the right thing.
Your Bride is young and is a trooper , someday she may loose her sense of humor and realize that you should have treated her better! Lol ask me how I know this?

Haha, I hear what your saying Corney. I did a search and came up with this little write up that I though was pretty good and made a lot of sense. Check it out http://www.soundrider.com/archive/tips/ ... lities.htm

I have the MSR Hubba Hubba 2 person tent... its very light and compact when packed up. Simple enough to set up but not the toughest tent I've owned. It has kept me dry in rain and sleet so I can't complain.

http://www.outdoorgearlab.com/Backpacking-Tent-Reviews. I'm thinking that #3 the Tarptent Double rainbow tent looks like exactly what I'm after. Pretty good reviews on it for almost half the price of all the other best ultralight tents.

I have a Eureka Spitfire ( http://www.eurekatentscanada.com/produc ... =section_4) It's a backpacking tent really good for KLR or smaller bikes where you don't have a lot of carrying space. It folds up tiny and is extremely light! The downsides are that it can't stand alone (need to be able to put the pegs into the ground properly) and that it is very small. I can sit up and change clothes in it though - and I'm 6'2" and somewhere north of 250... If you want to travel really light it's a great choice, but if you're riding a 1200GS and have the luggage room to spare I'd probably go with something just a bit bigger like the MSR Hubba. Used it on the Great Divide ride and on several rides since. It is good quality, and I got it for $75 brand new online in 2007.

Hey Intrepid, I have the MEC Wanderer 2. It's not a light tent by any means, but has a ton of leg and head room (good for my tall frame). It also has a door & vestibule on either side, which makes it handy for each person to escape quickly when you have the runs from eating bad food! I always wanted to try the MEC Tarn 2. It's similar fabric, etc, but lighter and it has a single front door design. Happy tent shopping!
