So i decided after trips to the beartooth and southern california last year that i really need to take more pictures/video. So for x-mas the GF and I bought each other a Garmin Virb, and a bunch of accessories.

why the virb? GPS data! i really like the additional context while riding/driving.

here is a quick spin with it, i didn't take the time to sync the gps data so it lags about 3 seconds behind the video, but they have a pretty handy tool for that.

at first glance the mounts are solid, the quality matches other cameras, the software is pretty easy to use, just drag and drop any gauges you want to add to the video. It does a dash cam mode with a recording loop, or time lapse, is controllable from my cell phone app, and has a small screen for aiming/adjusting settings. It was competitively priced, i've now got spare mounts, remote, spare battery, wall charger etc.

I really like my Virb, and like you say the software they give you is actually pretty good. Plus I can remote control it off of my fenix watch, which is a nice feature for being able to shut it down when you don't want to take video and easily start it up again. The recording time also displays on the fenix, so I can see how long the clip is getting with a glance at my wrist, and hitting the main button on the fenix causes the Virb to take a photo without interrupting the video. Nice feature, although the photo is lower resolution than what the Virb is capable of when the video is not running.

Nice demonstration. Strange, though, I haven't really noticed a lag in my GPS data versus the video. Maybe I just haven't noticed, or maybe there's some difference in the newer stuff...
