I normally use pieces of wood on the floor but I'm getting a bit tired of fighting with the tires so, I was looking to buy one of these: Anybody used them before? Which one should I buy? http://www.partscanada.com/app/webroot/ ... 145/zoomed

I am the two 2 x 4's guy as well and think this will be my next purchase also. Have always changed my own tires and used Dyna beads, can't say I have'nt scratched a few rims and pinched a few tubes though.

Never used Dyna beads but I read a lot about them on line. I balance mine using a "Marc Parnes Wheel Balancer" with 2 jack stands. To protect the rim, I make my own protectors by cutting old windshield washer bottles into 3 by 5 pieces. A lot easier to use than the rim protectors you can buy; those things break all the time and normally a piece fall inside and is a pain to remove. http://www.marcparnes.com/BMW_Motorcycl ... lancer.htm

To help protect the rims I split about a 24" piece of water hose and pop it over the rim lip. Takes a bit to keep it in place but it does work well

DIY... How to remove, install and balance.
This is basically the way I do it. Having a way secure the rim would be nice.

I have good luck breaking the bead on my klr for on the road repairs with tire spoons, ram one spoon between the rim and bead, and stick the other through the handle and twist, working back and forth and its just a matter of a few seconds and its broken.
