Got a headache deciding which new camera to go with.. Will share what ive researched in the last few days when i get home later

Decided to pickup the new gopro 3+ Black edition today even though i hate how they mount

Its a good camera. Some nice improvements over the 3.
What other cameras were you considering? There seem to be so many now its hard to keep up. Even Garmin has an action cam now...

Had good luck with the Drift camera when my son was racing karts and cars. I particully like the mounting system, if it happens to comes loose it will not drop the camera. Also the mounting system has not brokend and dropped the camera on the front straightaway (GoPro cough cough)only to have the next car drive over it! Been good in the rain as well. Lots of new updates since we bought ours some 4-5 yrs ago.

Well i would have been at home already but had to go exchange the gopro after work already 5 hrs after i bought it. Issues...

If theres any glitch with this new one its going back for good and getting the ghost camera

so i opened it up at work so i could get it charged and updated to go riding after work and it wouldn't turn on. put charger on and it's not charging

messing around it started working. then same issues again

took it back after work and got another new one. last chance for gopro


got everything updated, synced on 2nd new one. All working good

got my snow helmets mounted up

took pics of some different configurations

took viser off my 509 helmet. camera will have perfect view there and not sticking out to get whacked off. it fit under viser but not completely out of the way. might get annoying.

other helmet is modular so thats the only place that can go. should be ok

I bought the Garmin Virb Elite (the full GPS model). The biggest thing for me is that I can remote control it from my GPS, which means I have the controller mounted on my bike everywhere I go. It allows you to view the picture on your smart phone via WiFi, and it seems like a pretty good unit. If you buy a small adapter it even lets you connect an external mic - good for narrating while you're riding, or shooting video from a distance when you want to capture the sound (using a wireless mic).

I'll keep you posted once I actually get a chance to try it out. I've been using the Oregon Scientific cameras (ATC9K) up till now, and they're actually really convenient for helmet cam work, but I thought I'd give the Garmin a try.
