If Yamaha would make a 700 cc adventure bike for $8 or $9 grand I'd definitely be interested. They've got to get it right though - big enough fuel tank, high exhaust, etc.
Right now the BMW 800 and the Triumph 800XC are the only bikes in that category that could do any serious gravel, and they are both a lot more money. The Japanese manufacturers need to use their considerable expertise to break into that market with lower-priced machines. They'd dominate!
If Kawasaki can list a 650 Versys for less than $9000 surely Yamaha could build a 700 cc adventure bike based on an engine it already produces for less than $9000 too!

I hear that kiffer, that is a bike I would be interested in!
It should be easier to get parts for as well. I don't know what it's like to get Triumph parts but it seems to take a while to get KTM and BMW parts?
I currently can't justify 15G's for a bike right now. I guess I will stick with my KLR for my mid life crisis and look at other options in my 3/4 life crisis!!

IMHO the perfect bike would be... a twin between 600/750 with about 80Hp with a 21 inches front wheel and a range of 300 + km's(400km+ would be really nice) about the same weight as the KLR with lots of options/accessories so you can make a dual sport or an adventure bike if you want to. I don't see anything like that right now! Also.. below $10K would be nice.

Stuff like the Versys is close - but they need to combine it with the KLR. The Versys is just too much "street" and not enough "dirt". Right now I think the BMW F800GS Adventure would be a great bike, but like you say Corney $15,000 for a bike is too much! They could make changes to the Versys or V-Strom 650 that would make them on-par with the F800GS as an adventure bike and still sell it for less than $10,000, but for some reason they don't. Why???

Yeah, they're wrong. Just look at how BMW is selling their adventure bikes. And they'd sell a lot more of them if they were 60% of the current price!

Honda CRF 1000 Africa twin: From a German magazine and it says that Honda is trying to build a bike that quote: "really deserves the name Enduro". 180kg 1000cc http://www.motorradonline.de/motorrad/m ... lbild_heft
