I've often wondered if a guy could put a trip wire connected to a radio around your campsite. If the wire is tripped the radio blares loud music or something. If you set the perimeter up far enough away you could keep the bear well away from your tent. Of course, in a public campground you can't set it up too far away, and the neighbouring campers would probably keep triggering it.
That said, it sounds like it might not have helped you anyway. Can't believe that thing was so aggressive when no food was involved. Glad you're all OK.

That's a crazy story, everyone is safe and that's great to hear. Hope it didn't scared the kids to much!
So Ken, what are you taking next month up north?

We were at Lower Fishing Lake this weekend and our neighbors told us in the morning that a bear had scared out some campers earlier in the day. About an hour later the CO went by and shortly after we heard 6 shots thinking that he was firing popers to scare the bear off. Turns out he fired one poper in the air, no affect, a second over the bears head which made the bear bluff charge him. Them the CO panicked and shot the bear four more times with live ammo. This was a yearling bear which are usually the worst for bothering people as they have not learned to be scared yet or to properly fend for themselves. The mother kicks them off in late May early June and this year with a poor berry supply they are getting quite hungry which translates into aggressive.

That's interesting. I wonder if bear populations are up this year. I've seen 2 in Nisbet this year which i find kind of odd. I'm not exactly stealthy when I'm moving through there!
