I think the super sticky tires that sportbikes run at the track are non-DOT. |

I just noticed that the signal light size and tail light size apply only to motorcycles manufactured after 1996. My TS is a 1991... hmmmm |

I was looking into making my Wr250f street legal.... the process itself seems pretty easy, I went to proline and asked them what they want to see. They gave me a copy of the inspection sheet that they fill out and sign as well as the SGI book that contains all the requirements (size of lights etc...). Out fit bike and take for inspection...200ish dollars and they give you a paper and your street legal. The trouble is that not a single one of the light kits available for dirtbikes will pass the inspection. The signal lights and brake lights have to be huge. They must be stamped a DOT as well as be a minimum size. So even if you get a set of stock signal lights that a different dual sport bike was certified with they still may not pass. By the time you get the huge signal light, brake light, and liscence plate holder and light you are strapping a ton of weight in the back all being held by your fender cause most dirtbikes don't have much for a rear sub frame. So pretty much id you drove around much with it you'd prob brake off your back fender... especially once you pack it full of mud and go cruising down a whooped up trail. So if you wanted to make it useful you'd have to buy the lights you really want after the passing the inspection and hope that you don't get pulled over or questioned about it later.... |
