So like the title says we are wondering if anyone would rent or lend us preferably something like a dr 650 so she can do her road test with it. She is very comfortable on her Drz 400 but since it is only a 398cc it doesn't count as a big bike and limits her for the future. Please feel free to contact me ASAP, we are in Saskatoon thx!

You have to use a bigger bike to get license to ride a bigger bike. Sounds fishy to me

I had to put my foot down or else she was gonna sign for it! It is a great bike for her! We might buy it when we get me a matching 1190ktm.

The idea came out of the motorcycle review committee, but it was modified from what was originally discussed. The idea is that some person could take a test on a DR200 and then go buy a 1000 cc crotch-rocket and be totally out of their league.
The original proposal was that people shouldn't be able to ride larger bikes at first - to limit the power available for new riders. Sounds reasonable, right? But there were some people who had issues with it. SGI wanted to avoid the complexity of a graduated system, and the dealers weren't thrilled either I don't think - I would have thought they would like it, as they could sell their DR200s and such and then have people come back in and move up in a few years when they had more experience. The crotch-rocket guys didn't like it because almost all of their bikes are 600cc or more, and people ride those bikes specifically for the power so there are lots of people that wouldn't want to ride a watered-down version or a 125.
In any event, somehow SGI morphed the original idea into this thing where you can only ride bikes as big as you test on. I was against that idea but I was in the minority so I gave up on it they went ahead and did it.
