Many of you will remember that night two years ago when my life changed forever. It's been a rough two years but I know that I would not be same person I am today if it was not for the members of this club. I thank you all for the support you have given me and my wife, for reinforcing my love for dual sport motorcycles. if it wasn't for this club I don't think my drz would have had half the kms I put on it with the club.
For those new to the club two years ago I was t-boned by a truck while riding my drz in Saskatoon. I made a stupid mistake and went through a red light (even though I still don't think that light should be red). My leg was basically destroyed with 2 breaks in my femur, 2 in my tibia, 1 in my fibula, and four or more in my foot with a partial amputation of one toe. It has been a long journey from wheelchair to crutches to cain and finally back onto my feet and onto my motorcycle.
Since my accident I have taken every opportunity to inform people about helmet safety. If there is one reason I am alive today it is because of the hjc clx-6 helmet I was wearing that day. A full face helmet is the most important piece of safety gear you can buy. Some people try and tell me that a full face helmet is dumb looking, but I just tell them that not having a lower jaw sure looks a lot dumber.
If you think you will never make a mistake you may be right but you can't be sure about all the other idiots on the road myself included.
Again thank you everyone for the support you have given me.
P.S. I went for a ride at the local mx track last night and finally skipped across the whoops now I just need to do it again. Oh and I have another surgery scheduled for November on my foot hopefully it turns out great.

I don't know you, but I wish you well. From my street riding experience I can attest to the benefits of full face helmets. I have seen people with holes above the visor, below the visor and on the visor get up and walk away after a get off. The old saying holds true "what would you wear if you knew you were going to crash today?". Good luck with your further recovery and thanks for the reminder.

wow, that's been 2 years already? I still remember that sick feeling I had when I rode up on the scene and saw a bike lying there with DS tires... I knew it was one of us but didn't know who or how bad it was! Anyway, glad that you're mended up. And instead of preventing you from riding, you went out and got the lightest and craziest street legal dirt bike that exists

We haven't met, but good to hear that you were able to recover and get back riding. I can't imagine the recovery process that you must have gone through. I am also a strong believer of all the gear all the time. Thanks for posting your story and sharing your experience, a reminder of the dangers we face every time we go for a ride can go a long way.

Well you did put a damper on our first and only club barbeque!
Serious though I am glad you are mended up back on your bike, and that your new bride will still let you have one.
Congratulations by the way on your nuptials, from the few times I have met your wife I believe you have a good thing going.
Cheers

We're just glad you were OK, Jdawg. It could have been worse.
Let us know next time you're in town and we'll go for coffee. Better yet, bring the KTM with you and we'll head out to Nisbet!!

Thanks guys and I think I will bring the ktm next time hopefully. I just picked up a receiver hitch bike carrier. So that will make it easier.
