Yeah, I wimped out and walked my bike through a couple of obstacles. But Andy (Lav1200) rode his loaded DR650 through everything. One guy from Calgary apparently did it on a V-Strom 650, but he had help from a few guys lifting it over the obstacles.
Loading the KLR with my fat a$$ and all of our gear didn't help either on the stock suspension. Here's a photo of how low it sat just with me and the gear on it for that trip:
(Note: the photo was actually taken in Montana earlier on the trip, but my gear didn't change between there and Moab and I'm pretty sure I didn't lose any weight!)
Needless to say the severely reduced travel and ground clearance made Lockhart that much more difficult. It is do-able, though, even on a KLR, and some of what Ken posted having ridden looked harder. Actually, there are only about 4 or 5 difficult spots on Lockhart Basin (mostly close to where you got to - only 1 a bit further down). Most of the trail is a pile of fun and the scenery is awesome!
Glad you had a good trip - I am jealous!
