You gotta be fast and have big cajones to run that race. Hope he does well. I figure if I ran it as fast as I normally dare to ride it would take me about 35-40 hours to run it assuming no problems - which is back of the pack for sure (fast bikes do it in 16 to 18 hours, most finish in less than 30).
He probably already knows this, but I hear the locals make "traps" on the race route for fun. They'll dig a big pit or something just around a corner or over a hump so you can't see it coming. Then they sit back and watch the carnage.

Baja is on my bucket list, running it with a team would be epic, the Ironman is pretty extreme.

That is sad that they would dig pits and hurt riders, hope that isn't true.It would sure be be a speed killer for me, you could never relax a bit while riding.

this is not his first race. he has been a volunteer for a number of years before he decided to actualy race.
