Well I traded off the KLX for this beast! Now I can orchestrate some "bigger bike" semi tame gravel rides.

Whoa - your insurance is going to take a hit going from the 250 to that!
You want to ride that on gravel? You'll ding up the pretty paint job!

you can get down some hard packed gravel roads where the tracks on the road are clear of gravel. I did about 30 klm to get to Castle mountain resort last yr on my '82 Gwing. Not sure I would want to run in any loose stuff though......

Yeah it's go pretty nice paint, I'll try it on a little hard pack and see how it goes, I used to ride my R1 on gravel at 100km/h+.

Nice, bunch of guys from my church go one a huge trip everyyear, they are all on goldwings or big bore cruisers. Usually about 7000km around the western states. Something like that what you have would be perfect. I was looking at FJR1300's and annoying Jenny who has told me "you just bought a bike!"
But yeah they are crying about insurance, all of them barely ride in terms of day to day and all shelling out more than $150 a month on insurance. It's really insane what we pay.

Get an F800GS or a KTM990 and go with them. Then you can take the cool gravel shortcut while they are all on the wide, boring interstate...

Nice trade!! SkRider's dad had a newer ST a couple years ago, and loved it. But he ended up on some gravel and crashed. He had his GoPro on so you can watch how long he's knocked out for (15 min or so) and when he comes to, when a lady finds him lying on the road. Scary shit, be careful Intrepid!

Small front wheel = scary on gravel. I can't believe the difference on gravel between my Versys and the new-to-me F800GS. The GS is far more stable. Wouldn't go back to a Versys for any gravel work, although for a paved-road bike it is pretty awesome.
